R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril IX

Tuesday, September 2, 2014 |

I'm so sad that summer is over. My kids went back to school today. My oldest is a senior, and my youngest is in her last year of middle school. The only thing that makes this time of year good for me is fall colors, Halloween and R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril!

Peril the First:
Read four books, any length, that you feel fit (the very broad definitions) of R.I.P. literature. It could be King or Conan Doyle, Penny or Poe, Chandler or Collins, Lovecraft or Leroux…or anyone in between.

I've already read The Haunting of Hill House in another RIP, but would love to re-read it along with the group read! It's a great story.
Peril of the Group Read:
This Peril was added a few years back and brought a really fun, interactive dimension toR.eaders I.mbibing P.eril. For the third year in a row bloggers Andi and Heather of The Estella Society are hosting a readalong in conjunction with R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril. This year’s readalong runs from September 1st through October 1st, and the chosen book is Shirley Jackson’s classic, The Haunting of Hill House. It has been a few years since I’ve read this, or any Jackson, but I’ve been having that urge and cannot wait to be a part of this. This is a very laid back event, with questions posted to Twitter (and I’ll put them up here) on October 1st. As this isn’t a large book you do have plenty of time to get a copy from your local library or bookstore and join in.

Canyon Bakehouse Review & Giveaway

Wednesday, May 14, 2014 |

Canyon Bakehouse breads are made with 100% whole grains and only clean ingredients, so you can feel good about loving bread again! Their products include 7-Grain, Cinnamon Raisin, Mountain White, Deli Rye Style, Rosemary & Thyme Focaccia, Hamburger Buns, Hot Dog Buns and Cranberry Crunch Muffins. Oh, and the breads also happen to be gluten free – an added benefit for families with a range of dietary needs, or anyone looking to transition to a gluten free lifestyle. The best part? They taste and feel like ‘real’ bread! We doubt anyone will even notice they’re missing one ingredient – gluten. Here are some other features:
·         Certified Gluten Free
·         Made in a dedicated gluten free bakery
·         Dairy, nut & soy free
·         GMO-free
·         Family-owned, located in Loveland, Colo.

We aren't a gluten free family, but I am starting to believe that gluten is the cause of my headaches. I've been trying to switch over to gluten free to test out my theory. I was sent a sampling of Canyon Bakehouse breads to sample recently. They are delicious! I loved the Mountain White bread, tastes just as good as my favorite breads. My family didn't even know we used the hot dog buns and hamburger buns. They never noticed a difference, and they are super picky about healthy food, lol.

You can find some great recipes on the website. You can find Canyon Bakehouse products at local stores too, I was excited to find 6 stores within 10 miles of my house! Find a store near you.

Canyon Bakehouse is giving 2 lucky readers a sampling of their wide range of gluten free breads!

EKHO Book Tour & $50 Giveaway

EKHO Cover new

EKHO by Marie D. Jones Ten-year-old Elvis Jones is tired of being picked on, taunted, and teased by the bullies at his elementary school, so he does what any smart, technologically brilliant kid his age would do: he creates EKHO, the Evil Kid Hunting Organization, a sophisticated network of kid spies and secret agents that utilize a variety of cool gadgets to stay one step ahead of the enemy – the bullies. They hire kids, make them swear allegiance to the organization, and train them as Commandos, Privates, and Elite Spies. As kids rise through the ranks, the missions, posted on an encrypted EKHO website, require more smarts and skill, especially when the bullies form their own counterspy group called DEKE (Destroy EKHO Kids Everywhere). It’s all in good fun, until the kids of EKHO must put their pretend skills to use for far more serious, and dangerous, missions. As field agents come across evidence of more sinister forces, they now have to deal with the strange, weird, and the unknown as they look for the truth about the bizarre and creepy threats to their school, their families, and their own lives. They experience betrayal, intrigue, infiltration and counter-espionage as well as teachers and adults who act more mysterious with each passing day, which leaves Elvis and his EKHO team wondering: who can you trust when the person standing next to you might not be entirely human?
