Butterfly Gardens

Butterfly Gardens are some of the most beautiful gardens that you can make. Welcome hummingbirds and butterflies to your yard.

You can find what kind of butterflies live in your state by checking out this site or this one. Some popular plants are ~
  • Phlox 'Eva Cullum'
  • Buddleia 'Nanho Blue'
  • Penstemon 'Violet Dusk'
  • Coreopsis 'Jethro Tull'
  • Monarda 'Petite Delight'
  • Sedum 'Brilliant'
  • Shasta Daisy
  • Butterfly weed 'Asclepias tuberosa'
  • Aster
  • Black-eyed Susan
  • Daylilies <-- one of my favs!
  • Goldenrod
  • Lavender
  • Lilac
  • Redbud
  • Rosemary

Butterflies use two different types of plants - those that provide nectar for the adults to eat (nectar plant), and those that provide food for their offspring (host plant). It is important not to use pesticides in your garden.

There are tons of resources for creating Butterfly & Hummingbird gardens. Here are some wonderful sites ~

I just came across this & even though it isn't about butterfly gardens, it is about gardening. Go to the Sunflower Project. If you register they will send you a pack of seeds. I love sunflowers & they are fun to grow with kids.

The Bronze Fennel in my herb garden is a host plant for Monarch butterflies. It's non-toxic (so important with little ones), does not attract bees, useful in the kitchen and best of all, in conjunction with the passion flower vines it fills our backyard with butterflies every year! Thank you for the link to the sunflower project-very timely! Also,

Thanks for stopping by to comment at Canned Laughter. You have been entered to win in the stationery give away. Good Luck!
