Book Review & Giveaway ~ Queen of the Road

I am thrilled that I got to participate in the Queen of the Road blog tour. I almost always read fiction, and it is usually murder mysteries. These tend to be a bit dark, so it was refreshing to read a funny book, a true one at that. Queen of the Road: The True Tale of 47 States, 22,000 Miles, 200 Shoes, 2 Cats, 1 Poodle, a Husband, and a Bus with a Will of Its Own is about just that. It is a true account of the adventures of Doreen and her husband Tim.

Tim decides to buy a bus and travel for a year. Doreen, a psychiatrist and shoe addict finally agrees for the adventure. Apart from the fact that they are both psychiatrists, Doreen and her husband Tim are polar opposites. He loves hiking and the great outdoors; she enjoys sitting in bed all day eating bon bons watching Oprah. In fact, she is damn proud of her record: 118 hours straight without leaving the house. So when Tim proposes they take a break from their careers and embark on a year-long trip across the country in a converted bus, Doreen immediately protests. Why can’t Tim be like every other normal husband and live out his mid-life crisis by having an affair or buying a shiny new Corvette!? But Tim works his magic and before long Doreen is packing up her things and moving into a 340-square-foot converted bus with a husband, two cats, a Standard Poodle, and one burning question: Can this marriage of opposites survive (perhaps even thrive) living together in such close quarters for an entire year?

I highly recommend this book. It is very funny, hard to put down book. Doreen's writing style is very easy to read, she really sucks you in. The travels and things that happen on this year long adventure are just priceless.

Thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed my book.

And, if anyone wants to gift QUEEN OF THE ROAD (in paperback, so perfect for these downsized times), I'm giving away free, personalized, autographed (and quite lovely, if I do say so myself - and, I do) bookplates. See my website's homepage for details - just click the link that says, "give the gift of laughs and inspiration this holiday season."

That's a great review. I'll look into it based on your recommendation. Let me suggest a abook that my wife recommends reading in Depends (because it's funny, not because she's at that age...). It's "108th Street". A neighbor gave us a copy as it's not widely sold. They found it at www.eloquentbooks.com/108thstreet.html. No mystery, though, and the butler didn't do it, but lots of very funny stuff.
