Smart Habit Saturday ~ Updates

Well it is time for me to add another new habit. Why I'm not sure because I still need to work on the ones I've already started :) I really want to work on keeping my car clean. In the winter I let it slack & now that it is getting nice out, I want a nice clean car. I've already been getting on the kids to start bringing in their garbage every time they get out. Now I just need to clean it out & keep it up. I'm hoping tomorrow will be somewhat decent, so I can get it emptied out & start on my new habit.

My other habit updates ~

Laundry ~ Doing great on this one. I've been averaging one dryer load a week. The weeks that I have went without any, seems I end up doing 2 the next week. I've decided to just be happy I'm only doing one dryer load a week :)

Walking ~ This habit is on hold till the weather gets nicer. I did really well though before the cold winter set in. I still try to park farther back or walk more in the stores, etc.

Keeping the kitchen table clean ~ Doing good, has helped with the kids off all week on spring break. My problem comes with school work coming home & being so busy at night with dance.

Play more with the kids ~ Still doing this one :)

Finances ~ I'm doing good, well finances suck but I'm doing good with what I got

Water ~ I've been drinking tons of tea & barely any pop. In my world that means I'm doing great with this water habit :)

Digital Scrapbooking Links & Resources

I'm not really into Digital Scrapbooking, but I do like Hyrbrid Scrapbooking. I would love to get more into all digital layouts, but I just haven't found the time. I do love those brag books & QP pages though! I love downloading freebies, so that I can practice my skills without putting out more money. Since I'm mainly a paper scrapper, my funds go to that usually, lol. My favorite thing to buy though are frames & brushes, since those are used easily in Hybrid scrapping. I wanted to compile some lists of my favorite resources of Digital Scrapbooking for everyone.

Probably the best resource for finding digi freebies is the Digifree blog.
Another freebie blog I like & isn't as overwhelming as the above is Scrapping with Ikea Goddess.

Here are some other digi blogs I read ~

Shutterfly Creations Blog
A day in the life of Kim
Boo Land designs
The Legacy Lady
Scrap Matters
Katie the Scrapbook Lady
Snap & Scrap
Shabby Princess <--- She has my favorite desktops. Desktops were also my first try & making digi pages. She also has great tutorials here.

More Links ~

Digital Scrapbooking Magazine
Scrap Girls <-- Great newsletters Scrapbook-Bytes <-- probably one of the first & biggest sites Digital Scrapbooking Tutorials Youtube

If you aren't into scrapbooking, get the same or similar results from some of these services ~

Butterfly Gardens

Butterfly Gardens are some of the most beautiful gardens that you can make. Welcome hummingbirds and butterflies to your yard.

You can find what kind of butterflies live in your state by checking out this site or this one. Some popular plants are ~
  • Phlox 'Eva Cullum'
  • Buddleia 'Nanho Blue'
  • Penstemon 'Violet Dusk'
  • Coreopsis 'Jethro Tull'
  • Monarda 'Petite Delight'
  • Sedum 'Brilliant'
  • Shasta Daisy
  • Butterfly weed 'Asclepias tuberosa'
  • Aster
  • Black-eyed Susan
  • Daylilies <-- one of my favs!
  • Goldenrod
  • Lavender
  • Lilac
  • Redbud
  • Rosemary

Butterflies use two different types of plants - those that provide nectar for the adults to eat (nectar plant), and those that provide food for their offspring (host plant). It is important not to use pesticides in your garden.

There are tons of resources for creating Butterfly & Hummingbird gardens. Here are some wonderful sites ~

Butterfly Garden Website
How to make a Butterfly Garden
Butterfly Site
Garden Helper

I just came across this & even though it isn't about butterfly gardens, it is about gardening. Go to the Sunflower Project. If you register they will send you a pack of seeds. I love sunflowers & they are fun to grow with kids.

$25 free from Revolution Money Exchange

I signed up for Revolution Money Exchange last week and made $25 free for signing up. Haven't heard of them yet? They are a company similar to paypal but without fees (like how paypal used to be). As soon as you confirm your account, they instantly send you $25. If you refer friends, they send you $10 instantly.

This is a money exchange site (popular on Facebook), so you will need to give personal info. Sign up is extremely quick! You basically give full name, address, social security number & a checking account. The site has several security features including password, security question & a pin number.

Like I said, NO FEES! That is awesome to me. The only fee is if you withdraw money with a check & that is $2.50. If you withdraw to your checking account that you already have on file though it is free. Great way to make a quick $25 & if you have friends & family willing to join you can earn up to $500!~

If you join please comment on what you think.

** Update ** This isn't a sponsored post, however the banner is a referral banner. I am a member of Revolution Money Exchange, and I have already transferred my free $25 to my bank account. I am hoping that more people will join & I can start using this as another payment method on Ebay.

Letter B ~ Big Brother, Great Blog Hunt, Blingo

For April's NaBloPoMo the theme is Letters. I'm making things easier on myself & going in order & the end of the month we will have to see what I come up with, lol. Yesterday was A for April Fool's, so today is B for what else BB9 :)

Today is the next live eviction. Either Josh or Sharon will be going. Looks like it will be Josh. I cannot believe James pulled it off again, especially after his breakdown over Chelsia & then with Sheila. The diary room footage of James being so happy about Sheila making him feel good really made the huge fight make a lot more sense to me. I felt so bad for him, he genuinely seemed very happy that Sheila was talking to him in the Sauna. That had to have been so upsetting to overhear her right after. It was nice seeing him win the POV. I hope he takes HOH tonight. I still don't understand how people have kept Sheila in the game. She is the one causing all the problems everyone. I honestly cannot stand another week of hearing her talk & saying the same things over & over again. She is dangerous to all of them, you would think they could band together for week & get rid of her. I bet James is regretting taking her off the block, which I thought was a mistake when he did it.

I wish they'd show Chelsia walking into sequester with Matt. I used to love when they did, seeing the evicted houseguests reactions. They didn't do it much last year, I think because of all the controversy Amber caused. I'm hoping they do it more frequently this season.

I have someone taking Aly home from dance today, so I can watch the live show tonight (that isn't why, just worked out that way, lol). Woo hoo, I cannot wait to see who wins. I hate all the power Team Christ has, lol. Love that team name, has to be the best EVER! How silly. Natalie drives me nuts, but I actually like her a bit. I love when she gets all excited and acts like a kid, lol. I just wish they would all stop saying an Atheist shouldn't win, it shouldn't matter. I think it is funny though when Sheila says it the most since she has a crush on Evil Dick {the winner of BB8} He was very vocal about how he felt about religion.

Don't forget that the Great Blog Hunt starts today. I've found 4 or 5 clues already & I have loved every blog I have checked out so far. I have tons of tabs open in Firefox right now because I want to go through & read better all the great blogs participating.

Ok my last B topic for now, Blingo. I am so mad that they switched from Google to Yahoo. I have not had an easy search since the switch. The results are so funky with yahoo. Google was always right on, now it takes me pages of sifting or changing my search a bunch of times to get results that came up in the top 1 or 2nd spot with google. I'm still going to use Blingo at least a few times a day to try & win more prizes, but they lost me as a frequent user. It was the only search engine I used, but not anymore. I think it is 10 searches a day for a chance to win prizes, so I will just do what I remember each day & that is it. I hope they go back!

Chance to win a Bloggy makeover

The Pumpkin patch is celebrating the 500th post by giving away a great Bloggy makeover. Head over there to see the cute designs!

Check out the other blogs that Trista started ~ a blog design blog (Pumkin Patch Creations) and a food blog (Pumkin's Pantry).

A is for April Fool's

Isn't it appropriate that the April Challenge is letters & today is April Fool's :) Couldn't resist putting up my Letter A as well :)

Here are a bunch of quotes to enjoy ~

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said. "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late. ~Jack Handey

April 1. This is the day upon which we are reminded of what we are on the other three hundred and sixty-four. ~Mark Twain, Pudd'nhead Wilson, 1894

April fool, n. The March fool with another month added to his folly. ~Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. ~Chinese Proverb

Forgive, O Lord, my little jokes on Thee,
And I'll forgive Thy great big one on me.
~Robert Frost, "Cluster of Faith," 1962

He who is born a fool is never cured. ~Proverb

Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed. ~Mark Twain

If every fool wore a crown, we should all be kings. ~Welsh Proverb

I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it. ~Jack Handey

We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance. ~Japanese Proverb

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. ~Abraham Lincoln

Even the gods love jokes. ~Plato

The trouble with practical jokes is that very often they get elected. ~Will Rogers

A man always blames the woman who fools him. In the same way he blames the door he walks into in the dark. ~Henry Louis Mencken

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. ~Douglas Adams

It is the ability to take a joke, not make one, that proves you have a sense of humor. ~Max Eastman

Don't give cherries to pigs or advice to fools. ~Irish Proverb

A sense of humor is the ability to understand a joke-and that the joke is oneself. ~Clifton Paul Fadiman

It is better to weep with wise men than to laugh with fools. ~Spanish Proverb

I have great faith in fools - self-confidence, my friends call it. ~Edgar Allan Poe

The aim of a joke is not to degrade the human being, but to remind him that he is already degraded. ~George Orwell

Men reach their sexual peak at eighteen. Women reach theirs at thirty-five. Do you get the feeling that God is playing a practical joke? ~Rita Rudner

Suppose the world were only one of God's jokes, would you work any the less to make it a good joke instead of a bad one? ~George Bernard Shaw

Real friends are those who, when you feel you've made a fool of yourself, don't feel you've done a permanent job. ~Author Unknown

First Week Operation Spring Weight Off

mom weight loss

I have decided to participate in Jen at One moms World’s Spring Weight Off Challenge. I'm technically not overweight, but I'm carrying about 5lbs more then I want to. The problem with that is it is all my stomach area & it drives me insane. Luckily it hides well which is why I have avoided doing anything to fix the problem. I would love to wear a swimsuit again & I need the motivation. I keep saying I'm going to start to exercise; I look up workouts on the net. I also tend to tear them out of magazines & file them away. I always have an excuse not to actually exercise. This week my kids are home for Spring break & just this morning I thought ok next week I will start when they go back to school. When I saw this challenge a few minutes ago, I had to sign up. I usually avoid things like this because I don't need to lose a lot. I feel funny signing up when women are really struggling with weight. I feel that I really need to lose the extra pounds in my middle though, especially since that is a big risk factor for women. Plus this extra weight happened about 3 years after having my second child. I lost all my pregnancy weight with both my kids very quickly. I do have major thyroid problems though & I believe that was where the weight gain happened. That worries me, so I'd love to prevent any more weight gain from happening.

I honestly do not want to put my weight down, but I want to lose 5lbs.

Kasabian Gives Fur the Cold Shoulder!

Stop the SlaughterIf you thought you couldn't love Kasabian any more than you already do, then get ready to punch the air in an excited fashion. Or in the ladies' case, get ready to swoon uncontrollably, because the Leicester lads are lending a hand to peta2 by defending the furry animals of the world and their right not to be turned into coats, collars or cuffs!

Like most people, the members of Kasabian were shocked to hear that this year, hunters will bludgeon to death more than 300,000 baby harp seals. The fur industry says that it is killing more seals because of an increase in demand for fur.

This means that anyone who buys a rabbit, mink or fox fur coat or a jacket trimmed with fur is creating a demand for the furs of baby seals, who are often skinned while they are still conscious. One ray of sunshine for animals is that they have the mighty Kasabian on their side, who don't wear any fur – old, new, cat, dog, fox, seal or hedgehog – none!

When asked what he thought of fur, singer and all-around handsome fellow Tom Meighan said, "I think it's just common sense really. I mean, of course I don't think it's OK to smash a baby seal's skull. I don't wear fur; it's such an ugly thing to do". Fur-wearers, take heed.

Order your FREE "No Fur" pin, like the one pictured below, by filling out the form below, and we'll send you one free of charge. It only takes a second … bang! And the deed is done!
