Review ~ Higher! Higher! and Baby Happy Baby Sad

YES! This must-have toddler title sheds light on some concepts with a comical flair that will make readers HAPPY.

A towering ice-cream cone makes Baby HAPPY. But when that delectable treat goes splat, it makes Baby SAD. And how quickly HAPPY turns to SAD when a favorite red balloon flies away! Even the littlest listeners will relate to this playful look at a pair of emotions that are part of every baby’s day.

Baby Happy Baby Sad (Leslie Patricelli board books)

The sky’s no limit in a witty picture book about a child on a swing and the wonders of the imagination.

One child. One swing. An obliging dad. The inevitable plea to go "Higher! Higher!" Add Leslie Patricelli’s wildly expressive illustrations, and an everyday pastime reaches new heights of humor and whimsy. How high can it go? Higher than a giraffe? Taller than a mountain? Is Earth the final frontier? The creator of a popular series of board books rises to the occasion with an ingenious picture book of very few words that expresses the giddy glee of being pushed in a swing.

Leslie Patricelli has written some wonderful children's book. They are unique and great for little ones. My 7 year old really enjoyed reading the story Higher! Higher! It is a charming little story, that all kids can relate too! Be sure to check out Leslie's line of kids book, you won't be disappointed!

Review & Giveaway ~ Cart Stopper

Have you ever been out shopping, you have a huge cart full of groceries and it is windy. You turn around and your cart is blowing away? Or worse, you have your baby in the cart, you turn & the cart with baby & groceries start rolling away?

I think this has happened to everyone. I remember with both my girls, I would be struggling with one foot on the cart, holding it in place while I tired to unlock my door. Unless it was super hot, I always put my daughter in the car first and I used to dread my cart rolling away.

The mom behind the My Lil' Monkeys came up with this idea of the Cart-Stopper after her son rolled away in a shopping cart towards traffic. After months of testing, she and her husband started selling these fantastic products!
I was sent a red cart-stopper to test out. What a fun little gadget, that is super handy. It is a very reasonable size, that easily fits in a diaper bag or leave in the car, etc. It just suction cups to your car & then you hook it to the cart. It is wonderful for those windy days, no more fighting with the cart. I wish this was around when my girls were younger, it would have been such a life saver.

Buy it ~ You can purchase the Cart-Stopper in 3 fashionable colors for $9.95 each + $4.95 flat rate shipping. Get together with some friends to save on shipping!

Win it ~ The generous people at My Lil' Monkey is giving away one cart stopper to a lucky reader of Mom of 2 Dancers Reviews. Winner will be sent one random stopper, you will not get to pick a color. To enter, tell me what color you would buy if you were purchasing.

Review ~ Planet Pixies

We are big fans of fairies, fey, pixies, etc in this house. Stems from my mom and continues onto me and my daughters. When I came across Planet Pixies from I love My Planet, I knew I found an amazing series of dolls.

All over the planet, Pixies are losing their homes due to pollution, deforestation, and global warming. Now these Pixies need good homes and friends that will care for them and for the environment. Together you and & your Pixie can learn about the environment and what you can do to protect it to ensure no more Pixies lose their homes. Pixies are made with organic cotton fabric and natural materials. Packaging is 100% post consumer recycled cardboard and is recyclable.

I was sent the Planet Pixies Maya Doll for review. What a gorgeous little doll. She has brown hair, pretty read dress and shoes. Very high quality cloth doll, so she is good for many ages! I love that she has an embroidered face, very detailed. Plus the dolls are made of organic cotton, and they even come in a 100% recycled cardboard box that is recyclable!

Cami absolutely loves her Maya doll. She brings it with her all the time, sleeps with her at night and plays with her all the time. She is good friends with Tinkerbell :) With her being cloth, she is very easy to sleep with at night. No hard plastic doll that will end up hurting Cami in the middle of night. Such a great doll and great for the environment! The dolls are also a generous size, well worth the money.

The Planet Pixies dolls come in 3 different versions. A brown hair, black hair and a blond hair doll. Cami really wants Kayla next, she loves that blond/pink hair!

The dolls retail for $24.95. If you buy 2 or more pixies at I love my Planet, you will get free shipping. You can also purchase them at Amazon and a few other select retailers.

Visit www.planetpixies.com for interactive web games, and information on how to help the environment!

Review ~ 10-10-10 by Suzy Welch

Have you ever made a decision – regarding your family or your own life - that you later regretted? Felt guilty about? Wished you could take back?

Well who hasn't? I know I have made a ton. I, like many in the book 10-10-10: A Life-Transforming Idea, usually follow my gut instead of thinking things out. Now I am all about following your gut instincts, but in order for that to work, you have to first think about your decisions.

As a transformative new approach to decision-making, 10-10-10 is a tool for reclaiming your life. The process is clear, straightforward, and transparent. All it takes to begin are three simple questions: When faced with a complex dilemma, stop and ask, "What will the consequences of my options be in 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years?" Yet the outcomes are illuminating, and seldom predictable.

This book by best-selling author Suzy Welch, a mother of four and a columnist for BusinessWeek and O, The Oprah Magazine, provides moms with a decision-making practice that is as simple as it is profound. Through her own story and those of others, Suzy shows readers the ways in which using the method can remove the emotion and uncertainty from decision-making and dramatically change how you make choices, both big and small, in your life. With every decision, all you need to do is consider your options and their consequences in ten minutes, ten months, and ten years, and then compare them to your own set of values. The goal of this practice is an authentic life through which consistency replaces chaos and guilt replaces joy.

While the 10-10-10: A Life-Transforming Idea may not always be easy to apply, it enables Moms to think things through in a truly significant way, explain them clearly to others, prepare for the consequences of their decisions, and feel confident about their choices. Drawing on her own experience as a Mom with humor and candor along with the stories of others who rely on 10-10-10, Suzy shows readers the ways in which this method can serve a as powerful tool to utilize within our families, to teach our children to make good decisions on their own, and to build trust between parent and child.

Not only does this book provide intriguing insights into the life of an extremely dynamic and successful woman, it provides a principle that will truly resonate with moms by helping them live by their own values and priorities as parents. Eloquent, compassionate, and full of anecdotes you will relate to, 10-10-10: A Life-Transforming Idea is more than a great book; it’s a life lesson.

However, 10-10-10’s applicability is uniquely broad. From college students to busy mothers to senior business executives, from artists to government administrators to entrepreneurs, 10-10-10 has shown its effectiveness in decisions large and small, routine and radical, changing lives for the better at home, in love, at work, and in friendship.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is well written and easy to understand. This is an amazing resource to help us live a better life. I highly suggest running out and buying this book or checking it out from your local library!

Review ~ Plum Spooky A Between the Numbers

It felt like I waited forever for Plum Spooky (A Between-the-Numbers Novel) to arrive at my library. Luckily, it was the first book I got with BookSwim membership.

The First Full Length Stephanie Plum Between-the-Numbers Novel from #1 Bestselling Author Janet Evanovich.

Turn on all the lights and check under your bed. Things are about to get spooky in Trenton, New Jersey.
According to legend, the Jersey Devil prowls the Pine Barrens and soars above the treetops in the dark of night. As eerie as this might seem, there are things in the Barrens that are even more frightening and dangerous. And there are monkeys. Lots of monkeys.
Wulf Grimoire is a world wanderer and an opportunist who can kill without remorse and disappear like smoke. He’s chosen Martin Munch, boy genius, as his new business partner, and he’s chosen the Barrens as his new playground.
Munch received his doctorate degree in quantum physics when he was twenty-two. He’s now twenty-four, and while his brain is large, his body hasn’t made it out of the boys’ department at Macy’s. Anyone who says good things come in small packages hasn’t met Munch. Wulf Grimoire is looking for world domination. Martin Munch would be happy if he could just get a woman naked and tied to a tree.
Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum has Munch on her most-wanted list for failure to appear in court. Plum is the all-American girl stuck in an uncomfortable job, succeeding on luck and tenacity. Usually she gets her man. This time she gets a monkey. She also gets a big guy named Diesel.
Diesel pops in and out of Plum’s life like birthday cake – delicious to look at and taste, not especially healthy as a steady diet, gone by the end of the week if not sooner. He’s an über bounty hunter with special skills when it comes to tracking men and pleasing women. He’s after Grimoire, and now he’s also after Munch. And if truth were told, he wouldn’t mind setting Stephanie Plum in his crosshairs.
Diesel and Plum hunt down Munch and Grimoire, following them into the Barrens, surviving cranberry bogs, the Jersey Devil, a hair-raising experience, sand in their underwear, and, of course . . . monkeys.

This had to have been my favorite between the numbers book. The others, I liked but only because they were Stephanie Plum. This one I actually really enjoyed the story. If you are a Stephanie Plum fan, then read this one!

You can read the first two chapters here.

Review ~ Sam-e Discover your Good Mood

I was sent a 30 day box of Sam-e made by Nature Made to try out. I've never battled depression, however I do get mood swings from my thyroid issues. I thought Sam-e would be a great choice to help control my mood swings.

What is Sam-e?

SAM
-e is a naturally occurring compound that is found in all living things. It’s distributed throughout the human body and it contributes to maintaining mood levels.

SAM-e levels tend to decline as people get older and certain groups of people, including those with low mood, tend to have lower levels of SAM-e in their bodies.

When the body doesn’t make enough SAM-e on its own, taking a SAM-e supplement can support many important functions. SAM-e Complete is a daily over-the counter dietary supplement available from retailers everywhere, as well as online.

SAM-e is best known for restoring a healthy mood by promoting a balance of brain cell functions. Nature Made also claims that SAM-e promotes joint health, too along with promoting a healthy mood.

I wasn't sure how Sam-e would work for me. I have tried supplements before with no benefits (one was feverfew on my headaches). About a week into taking Sam-e, I actually did notice that I felt a bit calmer. Weeks 2 - 4, I really noticed that I didn't get stressed and agitated as quickly with my girls. I was surprised that it did work for me. Sam-e is something I'd like to continue taking.

I didnt' have any side effects from taking it. I was reading the website and it states ~

Generally speaking, SAM-e supplements have been shown to be very safe, with no known side effects. One reason for the low level of side effects is that SAM-e is a naturally occurring molecule in your body, and a SAM-e supplement simply replenishes your body’s own natural supply.

Here is a Wall Street Journal article about Sam-e.

I'm not a doctor, so I am not recommending Sam-e. I found that I liked it for my stress levels associated with my thyroid (and being a mom, lol). If Sam-e sounds like something you might like, look into it and do your research.

Nature's Source does also give a risk free money back guarantee. You can find details here.

Book Review ~ Mojo Mom

Mojo is that feeling you get when you’re at the top of your game, juggling the kids, life, and your own needs—even for one glorious afternoon. -- Author Amy Tiemann

Before I got pregnant with my oldest, I picked up that ever popular book What to Expect When You're Expecting. Since I was a new mom, I read a few different parenting books while pregnant. I quickly learned that most of those don't really help. I did get a few nuggets of wisdom, but the books tend to only go through one train of thought. I do however enjoy a parenting book every now and then. Especially when they have to deal with my feelings!

In fact, as Amy Tiemann, author of the new book Mojo Mom: Nurturing Your Self While Raising a Family points out, a major question in the face of these drastic changes becomes “Who am I, now that I am a mom?” Amy’s new book provides some answers. A mom herself, Amy has a PhD in Neurosciences from Stanford University, is a spokesperson for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day, and is an executive team member of Momrising.org. Through seminars and her interactive website mojomom.com, she now dedicates herself to helping women not only make sense of the changes they experience as moms, but also grow and thrive in their own lives. With a focus on self-care, creativity, and leadership, Mojo Mom provides thoughtful solutions and inspiration to help all women become exactly who they want to be. By nurturing themselves and their own unique identities, all women can regain their sense of mojo – even in the face of tantrums, laundry piles, and whatever else motherhood throws our way.

I really enjoyed reading Mojo Mom. I found it a quick fun read, that related to me as a mom. There are hundreds of books that can tell you how to raise a baby. Mojo Mom is a unique guide that helps you make the most of your life as a Mom.

Thanks to MotherTalk for the book to review! For more information on Mojo Mom, check out the books website.
