Throwback Thursday

I'm being lazy today & posting a photo of my oldest daughter. This was taken in October 1997. Almost 10 years, that is a throwback isn't it?!?!? LOL, I just have no energy to look through my old pics or to see what I've already posted & I like playing this. Isn't she cute though, she was born 6 weeks early & weighed 5lbs3oz. When we brought her home from the hospital she was under 5lbs. Looking at what she is wearing & how yellow she is, I'm pretty sure this is the picture we took of her on the day she came home. She had her mommy bunny in the playpen with her. Those things are awesome for newborns by the way. The more popular one is the Mommy Bear & they have a thing inside them that sounds like mommies heart beat. Very cool & the velcro the crib so they won't fall over or anything. I used them for both my kids :) It's been so long, who knows if they even sell them now, LOL. Check out more Throwback Thursday here.

Inflammatory breast cancer

I've heard about this woman a few times over the last couple weeks, but today I had to chance to really look into what type of breast cancer she has & read a bit about her blog. She wants to spread the word & I totally agree. I just got done reading a beyond annoying post at one of the Club Mom blogs speaking bad about Gardisal because it is sexually transmitted & I just feel a need to get some information out there regarding cancer. Not saying I am 100% for the vaccine, my oldest is about to turn 10, her doctor will not be vaccinating until 11. I plan on watching the research regarding it until her birthday & then make up my mind. The fact that is a sexually transmitted virus means nothing to me & I think it is a shame that so many are focusing on it! Anyway back to this woman courageous woman that is posting something so personal! I am copying one of her posts that had a lot of information. Please take a moment to read this! Also check out her blog. It is very touching! Click here

We hear a lot about breast cancer these days. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes, and there are millions living with it in the U.S. today alone. But did you know that there is more than one type of breast cancer?
I didn’t. I thought that breast cancer was all the same. I figured that if I did my monthly breast self-exams, and found no lump, I’d be fine.
Oops. It turns out that you don’t have to have a lump to have breast cancer. Six weeks ago, I went to my OB/GYN because my breast felt funny. It was red, hot, inflamed, and the skin looked…funny. But there was no lump, so I wasn’t worried. I should have been. After a round of antibiotics didn’t clear up the inflammation, my doctor sent me to a breast specialist and did a skin punch biopsy. That test showed that I have inflammatory breast cancer, a very aggressive cancer that can be deadly.
Inflammatory breast cancer is often misdiagnosed as mastitis because many doctors have never seen it before and consider it rare. “Rare” or not, there are over 100,000 women in the U.S. with this cancer right now; only half will survive five years. Please call your OB/GYN if you experience several of the following symptoms in your breast, or any unusual changes: redness, rapid increase in size of one breast, persistent itching of breast or nipple, thickening of breast tissue, stabbing pain, soreness, swelling under the arm, dimpling or ridging (for example, when you take your bra off, the bra marks stay – for a while), flattening or retracting of the nipple, or a texture that looks or feels like an orange (called peau d’orange). Ask if your GYN is familiar with inflammatory breast cancer, and tell her that you’re concerned and want to come in to rule it out.
There is more than one kind of breast cancer. Inflammatory breast cancer is the most aggressive form of breast cancer out there, and early detection is critical. It’s not usually detected by mammogram. It does not usually present with a lump. It may be overlooked with all of the changes that our breasts undergo during the years when we’re pregnant and/or nursing our little ones. It’s important not to miss this one.
Inflammatory breast cancer is detected by women and their doctors who notice a change in one of their breasts. If you notice a change, call your doctor today. Tell her about it. Tell her that you have a friend with this disease, and it’s trying to kill her. Now you know what I wish I had known before six weeks ago.
You don’t have to have a lump to have breast cancer.
P.S. Feel free to steal this post too. I’d be happy for anyone in the blogosphere to take it and put it on their site, no questions asked. Dress it up, dress it down, let it run around the place barefoot. I don’t care. But I want the word to get out. I don’t want another young mom — or old man — or anyone in between — to have to stare at this thing on their chest and wonder, is it mastitis? Is it a rash? Am I overreacting? This cancer moves FAST, and early detection and treatment is critical for survival.

I won something :) & Tv died

Wow, I actually won something & it wasn't even apart of the crazy Dog Days of Summer giveaways. Trista over at The Pumpkin Patch was giving away some classic cartoons! I ended up winning 3, my kiddos are going to so excited! Thanks so much Trista. I sent ya an email but not sure I sent it to the right place (your profile kept coming up with an error on the email)

I almost forgot. Yesterday I went to watch Eureka & my the picture wouldn't show up. All I got was a stupid line & the sound. I am so ticked! We tossed it today & now I'm back to using my husbands lovely 19" that he got when he was a kid, LOL. I totally feel like a teenager watching it because that was the size of my tv when I was younger. Sad, sad, sad!!! I loved my big tv (which actually wasn't that big compared to most nowadays) I think it was a 32" & not that old either. Pretty sad that the 19" from high school days outlasted a newer 32" tv. Worst part is we have never actually purchased a tv. We have been married almost 10 years (in just a few weeks) & have managed to get by without that big purchase. Before we used ours from growing up & then when my grandma died a few years ago I got hers (the one that just kicked the bucket). Ugh, I'm so sad!!

Book Review ~ Lean Mean Thirteen

If you haven't read the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich then you are missing out! I have heard about this series for a few years now & I just gave into it the beginning of this year. There was no reason why I was putting it off to be honest. Last year I got caught up on Sue Grafton's series. I basically wasn't ready to take on another big series. I'm still trying to finish JD Robb's future series with Eve & I am finally caught up on the China Bayles series & the Scrapbook Series, etc. oh another silly reason. I actually own the first book in this series! I am always so busy getting books from the library & reading them before they are due back that I neglect the books I actually own, lol. So finally this year I started with the first one & couldn't put the series down. It is awesome! Not only are there excellant mysteries & crimes to solve, they are laugh out loud hilarious. I mean seriously I had a hard time reading these in public because I would burst out loud laughing. They are just too funny. They get better each book because the things just get funnier since it has been building up. Wonderful books! My all time favorite is book5, but this new book 13 really competes. I don't want to go into what the story is about. Just click the banner & see what the book is about. I just want to say it is an excellent read! Highly highly recommended! Seriously if you haven't started this series yet, Run do not walk to either your favorite bookstore or library! The library usually has several copies available of the first 10 or so books. You will also find them at garage sales usually. Go!!!!

Fun Mail day

I had a fun mail day today & wasn't even anything to do with my online friends. I got my new Creating Keepsakes mag, My new Family Fun mag, $10 from my survey (love them) & I got the new tool pouch from Amazon that I ordered for hubby DeWalt Heavy Duty Ballistic Nylon Tool Belt. Not even a single bill, amazing!

You know what is crazy, the reason I had to buy a new tool pouch for hubby is because the boss from his last Carpenter job actually stole his tool pouch and all the tools in it. We have been slowly replacing the items. Luckily he doesn't need them all the time because know he works for a handyman company. Can you believe the guy stole them though? That is the kind of luck we have. Either he doesn't get paid correctly or something gets stolen. In between the Carpenter job & this handy man job, he worked at a Custom Car shop. They refused to give him his last paycheck & they kept his brand new tool box that we had just bought from Sears & ALL the tools in it. On top of that, they made him keep a digital camera there to take pics of his work & they kept that too. That was the camera I used for auctions, so I was ticked. I hate using new good Canon PowerShot Pro Series S3 on auction almost every day. Luckily I got a great Merkury Card Reader, so i don't have to kill my batteries using it.

Tiny Talk Tuesday

I thought this was such a cute idea, I wish I would have started this sooner when my kids were smaller. I thought I'd participate because yesterday my goofy 6 year said something that made me laugh & wanted to get recorded. First I'm a vegetarian, I became one in 7th grade around the time we were supposed to dissect frogs. Before that my parents were barely able to get meat into me & when I was very young they used to tell me it was fake & not really chicken, just to keep my weight up. However my husband & girls do eat meat. I figured it was my personal preference & I wouldn't push it on my kids, even though I do try to at least limit the red meat. Anyways, last night my husband & girls were eating hamburgers. My 6 year old is very open about eating meat, it doesn't gross her out at all & she has said several times I want some cow (which makes me feel a bit sick, lol).

Hubby & girls sitting at table.

C: Daddy, which part of the dead cow does this come from?
Dad: What?
C: The dead cow, which part makes hamburger?
Dad: Ok that is enough you are going to make yourself sick (I guess he is used to me, lol)
C: No I won't, it doesn't bother me.

A few moments pass.

C: Lifting one hamburger bun, says "do you know what is between us?" to the bottom part of the hamburger bun. The bottom hamburger bun then says "Yeah a dead cow"

Where oh wear did I get this child from???

Dog days of summer contests

Wow this contest is way bigger then I ever imagined. Right now there are 387 contests listed. Yesterday I only managed to get to 185. I tried actually looking at each blog I entered it. I even found some news that I ended up subscribing too. I've been happy with the turn out here as well. My technorati rating is actually going up for once :) Something was wrong with my account & it actually just got fixed a few days ago. Good timing because now I'm actually getting some kind of rating, FUN! Well I'm in the middle of eating breakfast. I have so much to do & I really don't want to miss any of the great blogs out there :)

Tackle it Tuesday

Tackle It Tuesday MemeWe are re-doing our roof this week. We ordered a small dumpster because we are doing the tear off on the garage, over the porch & over the bay window. The company ended up not having any of the small ones, so we got a lot bigger one for the same cost. My tackle is going through the house & throwing stuff out! We have so much clutter in the basement & a lot of it is trash! This is my chance to finally get the junk out!!! As I go through things, I'm hoping to come up with a lot of bags/boxes of stuff to donate as well! Wish me luck, I will need it :)

My biggest mission is talking my 6 year old too part with her Dora Couch. She got it when she turned 3, so it is 3 years old. Lately it has just been a couch for her stuffed animals in the living room & it is driving me nuts. Too me it is disgusting, even though I have washed it several times. She has used it when sick and she has eaten dinner on it many times. I think there still might be spaghetti stains on it, LOL. I'm really hoping I can toss it in the dumpster. I might have to bribe her though :)
