Bill Maher on Conan

I decided to watch Jay Leno & Conan last night to see how they were without writers. I am so glad I did because Bill Maher was awesome! I haven't really watched him much over the years, so I was quite shocked & happy at this line ~

"You can't be a rational person six days a week…and on one day of the week, go to a building, and think you're drinking the blood of a two thousand year old space god."

You could tell Conan didn't know what to say, lol.

Made it through the week

The girls went back to school on Thursday. It was hard getting back to a schedule, but we managed to wake up on time both days. Dance was still closed, so that was a nice break on Thursday. Cam actually got to play with a friend, which is rare during the winter. Aly had 2 competition classes today, but that was about it. Monday starts the busy week all over again with a full schedule of school & dance.

I have been keeping up on my Daily pictures, but have already slacked on the scrapbook pages. Oh well, maybe I will get my butt in gear tomorrow.

I have to upload my pics from my camera still :)

Wife Swap Last Night ~ Spoiled Beauty Queen

I normally do not watch Wife Swap but with all the shows being gone, I watched it last night. Now I have seen them in the past, and I have to say Wow did ABC pick two of the most extreme parents, lol. You have the beauty pageant mom who is living through her daughter and then the ultra feminist mom that is trying to teach her kids to be strong females (which comes across just a bit too manly).

The show had me shocked basically the entire evening. I did tend to side a bit with the feminist even though that family could have backed down some. I was glad to see that they let the middle child act more girly. The oldest I believe is just too smart to care about stuff like that. I think she would have been that way regardless of her parents. Hopefully she makes something of herself!

The beauty queen was very sad. Her mom is living through her & what was with that makeup. Sorry hun, that is not Sparkle, that is Halloween! The poor girl looked so fake & couldn't even read. That is just plain sad. Something was really wrong with that dad though. It was gross watching him spray the tanner on her & even worse watching him watch her videos. It just screamed to me that was something was wrong. Not saying he is doing anything to her, but I think he wants too. The way he treated the mom was terrible. If you watched the show, did you see how mad he got when his daughter learned about strong woman. Something is seriously wrong with that man!

I felt terrible when the girl tried cooking dinner & he said it shouldn't be fed to dogs. I don't know, that man just did not sit well with me.

Oh I loved the Christmas tree in spring & the Christmas present EVERY DAY. What?!?! I sure hope that girl meets a rich man to take care of her, otherwise she is in for a very rude awakening!

* Update ~ You can see a great video of the beauty pageant queen, here *

What new books are you looking forward to most in 2008? Something new being published this year? Something you got as a gift for the holidays? Anything in particular that you’re planning to read in 2008 that you’re looking forward to? A classic, or maybe a best-seller from 2007 that you’re waiting to appear in paperback?

I'm looking forward to reading:

The Amber Spyglass
T is for Trespass by Sue Grafton
The Grimm Sisters - kids book
The next Stephanie Plum Book - Plum Lucky & Fearless Fourteen
Lick of Frost
More of the Eve Duncan series by JD Robb - can't remember where I left off at the moment
Some more James Patterson books - too many to list :)

Kim Harrison books
An Ice Cold Grave by Charlaine Harris & some of her other series

I don't have my books near me, so this is nowhere near a complete list of what I want to read. If Patricia Cornwell, Iris Johansen, Mary Higgins Clark, Kathy Reichs come out with anything this year I will be reading!

invisibleSHIELD - iPod Case

Last Christmas I got an Ipod 30GB and I adore it! My mom bought me this beautiful Liz Claiborne case for it. Guess what it didn't fit, I was so upset. After Christmas I was on a hunt for a great ipod case. I read tons of reviews and found out that a lot of cases state they fit the 30gb when really they don't. I ended up getting a Pink rubbery case thing because it was one of the few that had a review that stated it did fit the 30gb. After a year, my case is getting a bit grimy, I usually keep my ipod in my purse so I can listen to it at the dance studio. I've been on the hunt for another case, and I came across the invisibleSHIELD. Looks pretty cool, doesn't it? It is made from a urethane film originally used to protect the leading edges of military helicopter blades, the invisibleSHIELD is clear, durable, and virtually scratch-proof. Love that it is scratch proof and don't fret if it does become scratched, there is a life-time guarantee on it! The case for my ipod is only $11.95 for the screen. Plus it doesn't any bulk to your ipod.

There is a full range of invisibleSHIELD cases for all the Ipods, Cell phones, Smart Phones, Camera LCDs, laptops, MP3 players, gaming systems and even for GPSers. Plus they take custom orders. They offer over 1,000 copyrighted precision-cut designs for a variety of gadgets with affordable prices.

Green New Year’s Resolutions

Nature Mom's Blog is doing Green New Years Resolutions & I love this idea!

1. Remember to bring my own bags to the store with me. I have them, just usually forget to bring them. I have been trying to use the self checkout registers though because then I can cram my bags full & use less bags. I also re-use all my plastic bags for other things & want to continue doing that.

2. Use less water & electricity. I have been working on it & would like to continue doing that and finding new ways of saving these resources.

3. Keep Recycling. We already recycle but I admit I sometimes get lazy with certain items that I don't feel like rinsing out & taking off labels, etc. I also want to continue taking paper/magazines to the library. They get money for donated paper items, do I like to take the stuff there instead of our service.

4. Along with the paper items, I would like to try & reuse paper more. My kids get so many flyers & the backs are good for notes or homework help, etc. I get lazy & just shove it in the recycle bag instead of reusing it. I think I want to start cutting it up in squares so it will get used easier.

5. Eat more local foods

6. Buy less! This is good for the environment & my wallet :)

365 Day journey ~ Day 1

I'm joining this awesome 365 day journey that can be found here. Today's prompt was

Prompt 1

"A day without laughter is a day wasted" - Charles Chaplain

Lets start the year with laughter

Now I know the whole idea is to take a photo of ourselves, but I'm tweaking the challenges/prompts a bit. I feel like crap, I got shingles around Thanksgiving & it is on my left forehead. I'm still getting terrible headaches & was just not in the mood to take a photo of myself today. What makes me happy our my kiddos. I got an adorable pic of Cam today that makes me smile & thought it was perfect for todays prompt :)

Journaling Prompt 1

I want you to write a list of Goals for 2008, nothing to unachievable, just a list of maybe 10 things you would like to do this year.

My goals are to lose a few pounds, I honestly don't need to, but I would love to lose an inch from my belly area.

Get my finances in order ~ a goal I seem to have each year :)

Read 100 books

Actually scrap some pages this year

Take tons of photos!

Enjoy my life

Simplify my life - declutter!!!

My Word ~ Simplify

Last year I picked the word Enjoy, for my One Little Word Challenge from Ali. I didn't too well to be honest, but I did think about my word from time to time. Last year I debated between Enjoy & Simplify ... I didn't think I was ready for the simplify, don't ask, lol. This year I am totally ready to Simplify my life & hopefully start to enjoy it more!

sim·pli·fy [sim-pluh-fahy] –verb (used with object), -fied, -fy·ing.

to make less complex or complicated; make plainer or easier: to simplify a problem.

Secular Humanists Holidays for the Year

January 1st - NEW YEARS

This is something that all can celebrate with no religion needed :)

February 12th - Darwin Day

Charles Darwin was born on the same day as another famous free thinker, Abraham Lincoln (Feb 12, 1809). We are approaching the bicentennial of his birth and the sesquicentennial (150th) of the publication of the book that changed the world, the Origin. Darwin day events celebrate the wonder of science and the glory of human achievement.

February 14th - Valentines Day

March 20-21, Northern Hemisphere - Vernal Equinox & Easter (first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox) * hmmm could that be Pagan? *

Time of rebirth

April 22nd ~ Earth Day

June 21st Northern Hemisphere - Summer Solstice

Also known as midsummer, this is the day with the longest period of daylight (and my favorite day!).

September 23 Northern Hemisphere - Autumnal Equinox

The first day of spring is a time of rebirth, autumn is a time for slowing down and reflection. Like the Vernal Equinox, the Autumnal is a moment when daylight and dark are balanced at twelve hours each. Temps start to decline and daylight retreats. This is a great time for a dinner to celebrate the harvest and to recognize the changes associated with fall.

Fourth Thursday in November - Thanksgiving

Time to express our thankfulness to each other, good fortune and life itself.

Fun to note that the Puritan Pilgrims were pursuing the kind of freedom of religious observance to which secularists should be devoted, fleeing the harassment of religious persecution in England and heading to the New World.

December 21- 22 - Winter Solstice in Northern Hemisphere

December 23 - Festivus

December 25 - Christmas

* Holidays from other Cultures, etc *
