Saturday Recitals

Yeah the shows are all done, all 5 of them. Talk about being worn out. The recitals went great & so did Hairspray. My girls have the acting bug now & want to try out for Wizard of Oz next year. We had origially decided not to take the class next year, but now they are having second thoughts.

During Hairspray, I ran to the bathroom. Some boys were goofing off at the doors & slammed the door into my foot. I think I broke 2 of my toes. They are all swollen, I can hardly walk & they are all cut up. That made for a fun rest of the night. This happened about 5 hours before we finished up the night!

Recital #2 Finished, only 3 more Shows to go!

Today we had another recital. This was my youngest daughters big day. My oldest just had the opening number. Cam had 4 dances: Jazz, Ballet, Tap & Pom.

It went really well. We bought her a trophy & a medal. She was a bit upset this year when Aly kept coming home with trophy's from competitions, so we got her these for the recital.

Tomorrow is the big day with both girls recitals + the Musical Theater class is performing Hairspray.

Review ~ Think-ets Travel Games

I was fortunate enough to be allowed to try out a great new game for kids called Think-ets. Now what is Think-ets exactly? It is an educational game that uses tiny treasures from around the world that inspires creativity and also tests memory.

We received the green bag which came with 15 little treasures. Some of them include a tiny dinosaur/dragon, abc block, yellow flower, a bell, a mini book and a hammer. The game is geared towards 8 & up. I let both my 6 year old play it and my 10 year old. My 10 year old daughter enjoyed the game, but my soon to be 7 year old LOVED it! She has always had a great imagination and has always loved tiny treasures. This game is perfect for her.

There are tons of games that can be played with this. You receive a little booklet with tons of ideas. You can also create your own games. One thing I really loved about Think-ets is that it is portable (and quiet). I can stick it in my purse and we have something to do at the Dance studio, waiting at the doctors, even while eating out.

The game is also collectible, kids love things you can collect! You can view a video on their website showing Think-ets in action.

They currently come in a Red Pouch, Blue Pouch & the Green Pouch. You can purchase at think-ets store. Think-ets retail for $9.99. They also sell a beautiful Agate Stage to play the game on and a Geode Cave to add to your playing experience.

First Recital = Success

Today was Aly's first recital. Cam wasn't in this recital, so it wasn't too hectic. Aly had her Opening number, hip-hop, Jazz & Production numbers all right in a row in the first act. Then she had nothing in the 2nd act. For the third act, she had lyrical, pom, tap & pom + finale which was the Turbo Hustle. That is my girl up in the air :)
That is her doing Tap, she is the one with her arms up.
Ballet was Wizard of Oz, she was a Tin Man. It was a very cute costume.

Book Review ~ Long Ride Home by Susan K. Marlow

I was lucky enough to be asked by Susan K. Marlow to review one of her Andrea Carter books. Since I hadn't read any of them yet, I chose book #1, Long Ride Home.

These books are
set in the San Joaquin Valley of 1880's California, the Circle C Adventures series tells the stories of 12-year-old Andi, a high-spirited and adventurous ranch kid, and her "best friend," her palomino horse, Taffy. Together they manage to get in and out of numerous scrapes on Andi's rocky road to growing up.

Here is the excerpt from Long Ride Home ~

Twelve-year-old Andrea Carter can't seem to stay out of trouble. Now her beloved horse, Taffy, is missing and it's Andi's fault. The daring young girl will do anything to find the thief and recover Taffy. But her choices plunge her into danger, and Andi discovers that life on her own in the Old West can be downright terrifying!

I have to say I really enjoyed this book tremendously. Andi is a very lovable character. She is a total tomboy, which doesn't exactly fit well with the 1800's idea of what a girl should be. The way that Marlow writes, makes you immediately like Andi. The books starts out with a great adventure, that made it hard to put down. Usually only Mystery books can do that to me, so I was a bit surprised when a "tween" book was hard to put down. I couldn't wait to find out what happens to Andi.

This series is geared towards tweens. I think that is fabulous, since it is so hard to find good books for that age group. This book is very wholesome, it also helps kids with making moral decisions. This is a series that you don't have to be afraid to let your child read.

I also liked that it takes place in the 1800's. It gives kids an idea of what it was like back in that time period. Susan has created a fun blog for Andi & Taffy that makes the reader feel like they can interact with the character of this great book series.

You can read sample chapters from Long Ride Home. You can also visit Andi & Taffy's blog. There are currently 3 books in the series with a 4th book coming out this fall.

I want to add that the book itself is a very high quality. They are published by Kregal Publications under Tween Fiction.

Without Power

We had severe weather on Sunday. Lost power in the late afternoon & didn't get it back until around 10:10pm Monday. Of course it was some of the hottest days we have had all year.

We didn't really get any damage luckily. Two tree branches broke in half, still hanging though. It is a big tree over our pool, so have to figure out a way to get them down. Once down, it will actually be good because that is two less branches getting leaves in the tree! This tree is huge, so we can't afford to get it taken down, but want too!

Don't want to keep the computer on too long, just in case. We have been having power go on & off since around 8:45 tonight.
