Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor

I love books about magic, books that are set in a fantasy world that we can only dream about.

Description of  Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor ~

One day twelve-year-old Tirissa discovers that everyone in her village is under a spell. Everyone but her! Then she sees a mysterious stranger change into a huge bird, a bird with a beak like a sword. Did he cast the spell? Desperate to find someone who can break it, she flees, leaving her village behind. An old herbwoman tells her to seek help from a wizard who lives far away, and her journey takes her across the Three Kingdoms. Along the way she's joined by a kindly troll and a short, fat palace guard. They are pursued by the twin princes of Kellayne, the best hunters in the Blue River Kingdom, as well as by the huge, dangerous bird. Meanwhile, an evil wizard watches Tirissa and her friends in his magic mirror and plans a second spell that will kill everyone in the Three Kingdoms.

About Willow

I grew up in Albuquerque, NM, in the late 1940’s and 1950’s, always with my nose in an Oz book or else out under the peach tree in the back yard, looking for fairies. After I grew up, moved to CA, and graduated from Occidental College, a few aptitude tests suggested I should be a novelist, but I didn’t try my hand at it until my thirties. By then I’d forgotten my childhood love of fantasy and over the years tried my hand at a variety of genres. None of the stories really captured my imagination and each time my interest petered out. But the years passed and one day, in my fifties, I felt a yearning to read Lord of the Rings, which I had never read. Halfway through, I knew that all along it was children’s fantasy I wanted to write. And so I began writing the tale of Tirissa, who loved to be out under the trees, and it turned into Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor.

I found Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor to be a really fun read.  Tirissa from the village of Oakenwood, is a young 12 year old girl.  She becomes the only one around with true life in her eyes. Tirissa believes the bird known as “the Beak”, cast a spell on everyone. She knows she must find help for the village.  Her first stop after leaving Oakenwood, leads her to being captured by a troll named Oglo.  Oglo ends up becoming a very important friend to her throughout the story.  She finds out she must travel to the palace.

Willow creates a wonderful fantasy world.  You will enjoy traveling along with Tirissa and other creatures she meets along the way.  This is a great introduction to fantasy novels for young kids, and it is an enjoyable read for adults that enjoy Young Adult fiction.  You get a bit of everything in Willow's world ~ wood nymphs, trolls, witches, wizards, palace guards, princes and more.

Five Star Publications ~ Girl Talk

I had my first daughter at 19, so I found myself not relating with my friends anymore.  The women I did relate to were usually quite a bit older then me, and we were never able to form a good friendship.  I have a small family as well, so I only had a small handful of women influences all my life.  How I wish I had the book Girl Talk: Celebrities and Other Extraordinary Women Share Their Secrets from Five Star Publication years ago!

Something special happens when women get together and talk - confidences are shared, help and support given, all in the name of sisterhood and friendship. Women are compassionate listeners, knowing intuitively when to offer advice or merely a shoulder to lean on. Gigi Garner captured these intimate moments and compiled them with permission into a book for all women. Contributors include such stars as Naomi Judd, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Shari Belafonte, as well as other women, from a prison warden to an elementary school teacher. Beauty and health tips to advice on careers and relationships, this book covers them all.

I have had such a blast reading this book.  All of the little tidbits of new information.  Some things I already do and I found myself saying "Hey, I do that too!".  Of course the part on the Secret Dish is a must read for anyone with kids that don't like their veggies.

This is a really fun book to read.  It is an easy read, you can pick it up when you have a few minutes and get through a story.  Girl Talk is one of those books you can pass around with your friends.  They will all enjoy it and you will have even more to talk about.  It would be a great reading club book as well if you are looking for low key read, especially during the holidays.  Speaking of holidays, this would be a great book to pick up as gifts for the hard to buy woman!

I did this review with Mama Buzz.  I was sent a free copy of Girl Talk from Five Star Publications.  I was not paid for this review or my opinions.

Infant Nutrition Center Website launch

A remarkable new website,, just launched on Monday, October 19th.  This website will take us Moms on a unique and powerful visual journey through infant nutrition and development, with amazing visuals that reveal how proper nutrition shapes development and how individual nutrients affect the senses, bone formation, and the immune system of infants. Showcasing new data and 3-D images, the site lets you explore and learn the latest research findings through video, pictures, and graphics, in depth questions like why infant eyesight depends on getting enough DHA and what key nutrients contribute to the healthy growth of your child’s brain.

Developed as a resource for Moms, the website brings together information from leading health centers and researchers across the country to explain how nutrition is crucial to infant development. How can you make sure that your newborn gets the nutrients she needs to ensure healthy growth through her first birthday? How do you keep her stomach from getting upset? What should you, as an expectant Mom, eat to ensure that you stay healthy as your infant grows? What vitamins do you need if you’re breastfeeding to ensure that you’re passing along the right nutrients to your infant?

You have to check out this site, it is amazing.  The Visual MD has the most amazing images of being a parent and other health related issues and concerns.  You have to check out this 26 week fetus {amazing!}.   I can see such a great future for this website.  You have to check it out!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Mead Johnson. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.
