The Crimson Rooms by Katharine McMahon Review

I had the chance to read Advance Reader copy of  The Crimson Rooms recently.  Written by Katharine McMahon, it is a historical romance novel.  The Crimson Rooms takes place post-WWI London (1924).

Still haunted by the death of her only brother, James, in the Great War, Evelyn Gifford is completely unprepared when she received a knock on the door one night.  A young nurse, Meredith and her six year old son are about to change the Gifford's life (Evelyn, her mother and her grandmother).  Meredith claims that the young boy is James's, conceived in a battlefield hospital.

The grief-stricken Giffords take them both in; but Evelyn, a struggling attorney, must now support her entire family-at a time when work for women lawyers is almost nonexistent. Luckily for Evelyn though, she is working at a firm that appreciates her.  With attorney Nicholas Thorne, Evelyn pursues justice in a murder case and adamantly defends a mother's right to keep her children.

Suddenly a new case falls in Evelyn's lap: Seemingly hopeless, it's been abandoned by her male coworkers. The accused-a veteran charged with murdering his young wife- is almost certain to die on the gallows. . . . And yet, Evelyn believes he is truly innocent, just as she suspects there may be more to the story of her "nephew" than meets the eye. . .

McMahon's writing style makes it hard to put this page turner down.  Not only a Historical romance, but murder and mystery are involved.  Beautifully written, in a classic writing style with descriptive settings and characters.   I highly recommend this page turner!  The Crimson Rooms has it all ~ Mystery, Romance, Heart Break, History, Suspense and more.

The Crimson Rooms is available for pre-order right now on Amazon.  It will be available in hardcover on Mon. Feb. 18th, along with the Kindle edition and audiobook. You will also find it  available on the 18th at Barnes and Noble , Borders and Indie Bound.  Published by Putnam Adult, at 384 pages, check out for more details.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by MotherTalk on behalf of G.P. Putnam's Sons / Riverhead and received a copy of the book to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Love Your Heart by Tim McGraw and Tom Douglas

Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Ages: 4 – 10
Price: Hardcover $16.99

To see a flip version of the book, visit here.
The second book in Tim McGraw’s My Little Girl series is a heartwarming story of a little girl’s selfless act of kindness.
Tim McGraw and songwriter Tom Douglas once again join forces to write another book about the precocious Katie and her dad. Katie has many talents, but she wonders which one will win her school’s talent show. With the help of Dad and her faithful dog Palio, and after several amusing mishaps, Katie finally chooses one talent that includes Palio. But at the talent show, she decides to drop out of the contest to help her friend, showing kindness is the best talent of all. Katie’s proud dad reassures her that she did the best thing and that while he loves many things about her, he loves her heart most of all.

Tim McGraw is: dad of three daughters, husband to Faith Hill, Country music superstar, Grammy Winner, American Music Award Winner, PeopleĆ¢€™s Choice Winner, highest grossing tour in history (with wife, Faith Hill), and has sold more than 35 million albums. Yet, beneath all the accolades beats the heart of a dad who immensely loves his family.

Tom Douglas is a singer-songwriter who graduated from Oglethorpe University and received an MBA from Georgia State University. He is the writer of hits “Little Rock” by Collin Raye, “The Gift” by Jim Brickman, “Love’s the Only House” by Martina McBride, and “Grown Men Don’t Cry” by Tim McGraw. He and his wife have three children.

Disclosure: Mama Buzz and reviewers received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes.

My thoughts ~ This is a very pretty book, with a nice story.  It is nice seeing a book written by a father for little girls.  Very pretty illustrations as well.

General Mills Lowering Sugar in Cereals

General Mills, Inc.Image via Wikipedia
Ever since General Mills started doing the Movie Cash Promotion, I have been stocking up on Cereal every time I find one of those treasured boxes with the code on them.

When I had the chance to learn about General Mills reducing sugar, I happily accepted the offer.

Here are some facts on their lower sugar announcement:

Did you know that ready-to-eat cereal eaters consume less fat, less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters? Cereals also deliver important vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, making cereal a top source of key nutrients in children´s diets.

Other cereal benefits:
  • Ready-to-eat cereals, including presweetened cereals, account for only 5% of sugar in children´s diets.
  • Ready-to-eat cereal is the No. 1 source of whole grains in a child´s diet today.
  • More frequent cereal eaters tend to have healthier body weights and lower Body Mass Index measures.
Studies also demonstrate the benefits of eating breakfast. A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office.

For more information about kids and cereals, please visit Cereal Health and Wellness.

Right now if you visit here you will find a $1 off coupon for one of four General Mills cereals.

Finding Couple Time ~ KY Blog Tour

With Valentine's right around the corner, now is the perfect time to start thinking about Couple Time.  Do you make time for your spouse/partner?  If you have kids, then you know how difficult then can be.  Especially when your kids are young!

When you take time each day/week to actually make time for being a couple ~ I bet you will find you have a happier marriage, life, family and better health!

What are some things you can do to make more couple time?  I'm lucky in that aspect currently.  With my hubby unable to work and both are girls in school full time, we have a lot of time together.

Since most of my readers probably are not in that situation, it is important to make the time.  Are you able to get a babysitter once a month?  Take the time to do a date night once or twice month.  Can't afford a babysitter?  Get together with some friends and rotate babysitting nights.  You could even have the kids at the sitters house and just have a romantic dinner at home with no kids.

Try staying up just a half hour later one night a week.  Half hour won't make much of a difference with your sleep and I bet the benefit of couple time will be more beneficial anyways.  Not sure what to do, K-Y is here to help ...

This February, K-Y Brand is introducing its new Couples Place Web site,, a resource for couples looking to strengthen their connection.  The site will feature advice and commentary from the nation's leading relationship and sexual health experts. Site visitors can also enter in a contest to be selected as "America's Top Couple." The winning couple will receive a trip to New York City to participate in a professional photo shoot and be featured in a national magazine.

You may have noticed, in recent years K-Y Brand has launched intimacy enhancement products to further help couples make the most of their connection behind the bedroom door, like Yours + Mine couples lubricant and Intense arousal gel for her.

So, what do you do for couple time?  Is it already a priority to you or is it something you want to change in 2010?  Post some of your ideas, lets all help each other come up with creative ways to sneak in couple time.

I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of K-Y Brand and received samples of the Yours + Mine and Intense products. In addition, Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

My Global Giving Gift Card will be redeemed towards one of the charities supporting Haiti!
