Two hair braids for girls this Thanksgiving!

With holidays on the horizon, you and your brood have plenty of parties to attend, and you know what that means—picture time! This holiday season, it’s easy to keep your little angel looking cute, coifed and camera-ready with simple yet stylish hair looks from Cozy Friedman, author of Cozy's Complete Guide to Girls' Hair .

The French Braid Headband
Besides being a great fuss free style, this braided band makes its own accessory. Girls can wear it with their hair hanging down in back, or with a ponytail. Complete this look for the holidays with fun beads or barrettes.

The French Braid Headband

Wide-tooth comb
Fine-tooth comb
Ponytail holders
Jaw clip
Decorative bobby pins

Step 1: Start with damp hair (either towel –dried or misted) and use a wide-tooth comb to detangle the hair.

Step 2: Use a fine-tooth comb to draw a horizontal line across the crown from the top of one ear to the top of the other ear. From the line, comb the hair forward to the face. Pull the hair in back of the line into a ponytail holder or jaw clip so it stays out of your way.

Step 3: Choose which ear you want the braid to start from. Tilt the head so the ear you’ve chosen is facing up toward the ceiling. With your child’s ear tilted up, being making the braided headband using the hair in front of the part.

Step 4: Once you’ve reached the other ear, secure the braid with a ponytail holder. If you like, tuck it behind the ear and pin it in place with a few bobby pins. Remove the ponytail holder or jaw clip use in Step 2 and style as you like. Finish by adding sparkly or decorative hairpins through different parts of the braid.

The Heart Braid
This is a must-have look for the holidays. To really make this look extra special add a clip to the end of the heart that coordinates your child's holiday outfit. You can also use a colorful ponytail holder at the end or add decorative beads in the braid.

The Heart Braid Compressed
Wide-tooth comb
Fine-tooth comb
Decorative hair clip
Ponytail holders

Step 1: Starting with damp hair (either towel-dried or misted), use a wide-tooth comb to detangle the hair.  Then, using a fine-tooth comb, part the hair down the middle of the head.  Clip one side up right above the ear.

Step 2: On the other side of the part, use the fine comb to gather a thin section of hair from the crown.  This section should measure about 2 inches from the hairline to the top of the head.

Step 3: Divide this section into three, and begin a French braid starting at the crown and curving toward the temple, then toward the back of the head, like the top lobe of a heart.  You will be lifting hair into the braid only from this side of the part.  Leave no loose hair in front of the ears.

Step 4: When you reach the center part at the back of the head, secure the braid with a ponytail holder.  If the hair is very long, end the braid about midear; the ends will hang down the back.

Step 5: Unclip the hair on the other side of the part and repeat the process.  Secure with a ponytail holder.

Step 6: Join the ends of the braids together in the back with a decorative bow or ponytail holder to form the bottom point of the heart.

Nursery Rhyme Murders Collection

I love to read, and I love books.  I was hesitant to get a kindle because I wasn't sure if I would miss the feel of paper books.  Am I ever glad I got my kindle.  For several reasons, but one of the biggest is my discovery of indie authors.  Most people when they get their kindle, they start looking for free or cheap books.  I of course love a good freebie, so quickly delved into the world of indie authors. I've blogged about some in the past, here is another favorite.

Nursery Rhyme Murders Collection, I've read the first two in this series - Mary Mary Quite Contrary which is a prequel short story to Humpty Dumpty.  The characters are a lot of fun.  Love the small town cop and the ex-FBI agent working with a strong black female fbi agent that has a lot of self doubt she is working through.

The crimes are interesting and revolve around Nursery Rhymes which is a lot of fun.  I felt like the two books I read out of this series were less grisly then other books written by the author. There is a warning though about graphic scenes.  I'm squeamish, and love these stories!

You can get the entire collection for $3.99 as of this post (regular $5.99),Nursery Rhyme Murders Collection.  I love that you can buy the collection now even though it isn't finished yet.  You will get the update as the books are released.

The collection includes...
Mary, Mary Quite Contrary - a prequel short story to Humpty Dumpty
Humpty Dumpty - the greatly anticipated Hard Boiled/Police Procedural, full-length novel
Old Woman in a Shoe*exclusive to the collection - the bridge short story between Humpty Dumpty and All Fall Down
All Fall Down - the second book in the Nursery Rhyme Murders Collection (will be added to the collection in March 2014 for no extra charge)
Eennie Meanie Moe*exclusive to the collection- the bridge short story after All Fall Down. (will be added to the collection in March 2014 for no extra charge)

If you don't want to splurge the $4 bucks, for only .99 you can get Humpty Dumpty: The killer wants us to put him back together again (Book 1 of the Nursery Rhyme Murders Series).

You can also subscribe to the website Free Par-Tay which is how I get a lot of my Carolyn McCray and Ben Hopkins book for free or .99.  You also get entered to win $25 Amazon gift card every time you open one of their emails!

* I was given the book Humpty Dumpty for free in exchange for an honest review on Amazon.  I chose to write a blog as well to  let my readers know about a book series I enjoy.  I have purchased several other collections by these authors, I truly enjoy them!

I'm not affiliated in any way to the website Free Par-Tay, and I was not asked or compensated for recommending it. It is a newsletter I enjoy :)

Princess 3D Interactive Puzzle Game Giveaway

With summer almost coming to its end I have been finding it more difficult to keep the kiddo's entertained. Fortunately, we came across this totally awesome Princess 3D Interactive Puzzle Game by Popar. This is a little fashionista's dream come true!!! You can dress-up your virtual Princesses from head to toe in glamorous gowns, hairstyles, pretty patterns, and countless colors. Make your very own princess by changing her face, skin, hair and outfit. Then give her a pretty princess name! Two modes of play: dress-up your princess in glamorous outfit customized to your liking, or play with your princess on top of the puzzle! Make her dance at the disco, watch fireworks or take a walk in the rain. Did I mention awesome!
Popar Princess Puzzle
Company says....
T Jochim, CEO of Popar Toys, explains simply, “where most puzzles and games end, Popar begins.” Indeed, building a 300-piece sports puzzle is only half the fun. The finished Soccer 3D Soccer Interactive PuzzleGame begins a whole new game with the point of an Apple or Android device. Suddenly, the flat puzzle is transformed into an augmented reality where kids can be the stars at the World Cup. Hence the company's tagline: "Read it. See it. Be it."
My daughter LOVES fashion and has been designing outfits since she was old enough to hold a pencil. I am constantly amazed by her imagination and creativity and this game has the ability to bring her image to life!
After assembling the puzzle the extra-thick, easy to hold puzzle pieces download and open the free app (*NOTE: I found this to be the most difficult part. We tried it on the iPad 1st generation, didn't work. Duh, need a camera. Tried iPod touch 5th generation. Will for surely work right? Nope! Called the company and for some reason only works on later model iPads or iPhones. Keep that in mind while purchasing!)
Once we got that figured out it was hours of fun!
All 3D puzzles are priced at a very friendly $14.99. Designed for children 6 and up, parents and siblings will want to get their hands on these fun augmented reality games. Popar recommends getting up and moving around the puzzle for a better view of the game! Kids (and grownups) can play for 30 seconds or 30 minutes , improving game skills and finding new avenues to play the puzzle.

ProSkins 28 day Challenge

I was invited to take the Proskins 28 day challenge a few weeks back.  I received my leggings, and I am finally starting the challenge.  I have been challenged to wear a pair of Proskin Slim Leggings for 28 days in an effort to reduce the appearance of cellulite and firm up problem areas.  I was given a pair of Proskin Slims to test out during the 28 day period.  You can learn about, plus sign up for the 28 Day Challenge.

You basically just have to wear the leggings for a minimum of 8 hours a day.  This can be during the day, while exercising or simply while sleeping.  I plan on wearing mine at night while sleeping.  My legs aren't really a problem area for me.  My belly and hips are my worse areas.  I'd love to have my legs firm up a bit though!

Slimming leggings and slimming tights that actually help you slim and reduce Cellulite while you wear them

The proskins slimming range include full length slimming leggings3/4 length slimming tightslong sleeved slimming tops and slimming shorts. Proskins are a progressive, cutting edge specialist in the field of high technology fabrics and compression wear. Proskins are recognised specialists in sports technology fabrics and this new slimming fabric has some special ingredients impregnated into it. These anti-cellulite ingredients, include caffeine (to boost circulation), retinol (to improve skin tone), and aloe vera (for skin-softening). These are packed into microscopic capsules and woven tightly into the yarn.

The leggings are super comfortable.   I ordered the medium which fit great.  I actually could have done the small.  They are true to size, but are stretchy.  You want them to be form fitting.  They are a shiny material, so I personally wouldn't feel comfortable wearing them out as part of an outfit.  My teenager would though, lol.  They are a bit high waisted on me.   Which is great, I'm hoping it will do some magic on my belly!  My only complaint on these leggings (if you can all it that), is that the ankles are super tight.  I really struggle getting them over my ankles.  Once on though, they are fine.

Now onto the nitty gritty ~

Starting Measurements

Measurements taken with my Proskin Slims on.
  • Hips: 37.75″
  • Top of Thighs: Left 20.75″ Right 21.5"
  • Widest Part of Thigh: Left 18.5″ Right 19"
  • Above Knee: Left 14.5″ Right 14.5"
  • Below Knee: Left 12″ Right 12.5"
  • Widest Part of Calf: Left 10.5″ Right 11"
Clearly, my right leg is fatter.  How strange.

I’ll be doing weekly updates, so watch for that.  Are you doing the challenge, let me know if you sign up!

PS. Sign up & get 50% off a pair of your own 28 day Slim Leggings!

Author Patrick W. Carr Patrick Carr was born on an Air Force base in West Germany at the height of the cold war. He has been told this was not his fault. As an Air Force brat, he experienced a change in locale every three years until his father retired to Tennessee. Patrick saw more of the world on his own through a varied and somewhat eclectic education and work history. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1984 and has worked as a draftsman at a nuclear plant, did design work for the Air Force, worked for a printing company, and consulted as an engineer. Patrick’s day gig for the last five years has been teaching high school math in Nashville, TN. He currently makes his home in Nashville with his wonderfully patient wife, Mary, and four sons he thinks are amazing: Patrick, Connor, Daniel, and Ethan. Sometime in the future he would like to be a jazz pianist. Patrick thinks writing about himself in the third person is kind of weird.
