Author Patrick W. Carr

Patrick Carr was born on an Air Force base in West Germany at the height of the cold war. He has been told this was not his fault. As an Air Force brat, he experienced a change in locale every three years until his father retired to Tennessee. Patrick saw more of the world on his own through a varied and somewhat eclectic education and work history. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1984 and has worked as a draftsman at a nuclear plant, did design work for the Air Force, worked for a printing company, and consulted as an engineer. Patrick’s day gig for the last five years has been teaching high school math in Nashville, TN. He currently makes his home in Nashville with his wonderfully patient wife, Mary, and four sons he thinks are amazing: Patrick, Connor, Daniel, and Ethan. Sometime in the future he would like to be a jazz pianist. Patrick thinks writing about himself in the third person is kind of weird.

Top Ten’s Best Foods (or drinks) for a Writer

1.       Coffee! Man, I love caffeine. Nothing helps break writer’s block better than a venti mocha latte at Starbuck’s and, woohoo, do they make it strong? Have I mentioned I love caffeine?

2.       Chocolate. This is like the best thing ever. There is no creative block that the combined efforts of chocolate and coffee can’t break down. My favorite form of chocolate is fudge. Every Christmas season I make about 50 pounds to give away to friends and family. Of course, I have to sample it to make sure it’s adequate.

3.       Celery. You might think this is a little weird, unless of course you just read number one and two. I can’t believe how many calories are in just a few latte’s and pieces of fudge. Not as good as chocolate, but the crunch is very emotionally satisfying. It’s great for writing scenes where the bad guy finally gets his.

4.       Water. I can’t overestimate the importance of staying hydrated during a writing marathon. Hey, football players, runners, writers. It’s all good.

5.       Hot chocolate. The best part is to get it hot enough to melt the marshmallows on top into a delicious creamy sludge that you can scoop off the top with a spoon.

6.       Peppermint Sticks. I like the candy canes that come out every Christmas, but almost anything will do. The best part about it is biting off a little piece and letting it rattle around my mouth when I have a lot of nervous energy.

7.       Muffins. I suppose I should put a plug in here for something healthy, but really, I just like muffins. The trick is to keep the crumbs out of the keyboard.

8.       Homemade cookies. The first recipe my sons learned by heart from their mother was chocolate chip cookies. Do I have a great family or what? I try to schedule my writing when they’re just coming out of the oven and they’re all warm and gooey.

9.       Milk. A balance between protein and all those carbs is essential.

10.   Tea. PG Tips for the morning and herbal for the afternoon/evening. Earl Grey is a great drink for those times when I’m trying to write something particularly medievalish.

Review ~ Purse Insert Organizer + Great deal $3.55 Shipped!

I use large purses, everyone makes fun of me.  A bunch of the ladies I work with call me Mary Poppins.  Since I use such big bags, I'm always in search of the perfect purse organizer.   I've used many brands from all price ranges.

I realized that since they hold the majority of my items, they tend to get dirty quickly.  After realizing that, I started looking for cheaper versions of purse organizers.  I bought the Nylon Handbag Insert Cosmetic Gadget Purse Organizer in pink from a daily deal site.  I thought I was getting a great deal and later found it cheaper on both Amazon and Ebay.  Oh well, live in learn.  I didn't realize it was from Hong Kong when I originally ordered it from the deal site.

I was a bit worried, but when it arrived it actually felt like a nice quality organizer.  I had purchased something similar on Amazon about a year ago for a gift, and it was so thin, I decided it wasn't gift worthy.  I got maybe a few weeks out of it.  This purse organizer though has a nice thickness to it.

It also has side snaps so you can snap it closed so it is thinner.  Has a lot of pockets and is very versatile.  I love it!  I've been using it about a month and half, and it looks good as new.

I'm actually going to purchase this  Yellow and Gray Handbag Organizer because it is only $3.55 shipped (at time of writing).

These inserts are really great to have in the summer. I usually use tote bags for going to the beach or park.  I can just grab the organizer and my wallet, toss it in my tote and be ready to go.  With kids, it helps to be able to grab and go, lol !!
